130 ladies from the Hale area came together for lunch at FOX restaurant in Hale Barns to talk shoes. Not what you may think, it wasn’t to discuss the latest designer footwear, but to raise money for Wood St Mission’s SmartStart campaign. The charity campaign raises funds to help low income families in Manchester and Salford equip their children for school. If children have the right kit it means they are more likely to fit in and engage in school.
The lunch at FOX raised over £18,000 which will equate to a significant amount of shoes and school kit items including school coats and stationery packs.
The lunch was organised by three local ladies; Tamara Semp, Mehr Mussarat and Sylvia Dobkin. Guests on the day at FOX, including Seema Malhotra from Real Housewives of Cheshire, were treated to a tasty three course lunch with choices including; honey and lime baked salmon, twice baked goats cheese soufflé and white chocolate and passion fruit cheesecake. There was entertainment from singer Yvette Royale.
Danny Fox, owner of FOX restaurant, supplied the food at cost price and the team on the day as well as making a donation to the charity.
Events like this are a great way to spread the word of Wood Street Mission’s SmartStart campaign and help create more awareness across the region. New school kit like shoes and coats may seem a basic and simple thing to most people, but there are over fifty five thousand children living in poverty in Manchester and Salford to whom new school shoes are an unattainable luxury.
